Soil Building Workshop – with Arzeena Hamir
Sunday, April 7, 2024
Alternate date (in case of inclement weather): Sunday, April 14, 2024
How do you transition a part of your grass lawn, a weedy patch, or poor soil into a nutrient-rich planting bed? This workshop will offer some labour-saving ideas and highlight some of the many materials to consider when building your soil. Participants will work on preparing and placing materials in order to get the best results and find out what each component adds to the soil. Protection of soil structure and nutrients through the seasons will also be discussed. This workshop is hands-on and involves moving some heavy materials, i.e. composted manure, compost, etc. by shovel and wheelbarrow.
Arzeena Hamir, our workshop leader, has a background in permaculture and is the owner of Amara Organic Farm here in the Comox Valley, and will be an excellent resource for your questions regarding soil building in your own yards.
A gentle reminder, we will be working in an enclosed studio; please respect others by staying home if you are not feeling well.
Cost: $20 members or $25 non-members
Time: Sunday, April 7 (or April 14), 2024, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
