Spring Beauties:  Deer Resistant and Drought Tolerant Selections – with Joan Wynden

Joan Wynden, a Master Gardener and Permaculture Designer, can’t seem to stop producing new plants, and has been called a ‘plant midwife’. Featuring deer-resistant, drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly perennials, her home-based nursery, Garden Lore, celebrates the wonders of nature with a selection of the unique and unusual, the beautiful and the bizarre.

In this, the seemingly longest month of the year, gardeners yearn for the almost magical appearance of those colourful treasures, the harbingers of the spring that never fail to uplift and delight us.  And while temperatures may still be cold, these sturdy little characters do spring forth, and we watch the earth begin to wake from its slumber, not only in the plant world but also the accompanying early pollinators who rely on these beauties.

We’ll look at the spring bulb families that have so much to offer at this time of year, when we most need to know that winter will soon be over, and the earth will warm again.
