Eurosa Farms – with Paul Bulk
Growing roses for me is in my DNA. My grandfather grew cut roses for his whole life in the Netherlands and my father emigrated to Canada in 1979 and, together with my mother, started his own rose farm, Eurosa Gardens.
I started working at the farm from the age of 14 as a truck washer and evolved into other roles as the years went by. From 2000-2003 I went to Kwantlen College and Olds University and enrolled in the horticulture program. From 2003 on, I have been working full time and am currently head grower and co-owner of Eurosa Farms. During my time, I have had the experience of growing many different crops including: roses, alstromeria, lisianthus, snapdragons, gerberas, mathiola, sweet peppers, tomatoes and cucumber. Currently, my main job is managing the 100,00 rose plants and our 4.5 acre facility.
For my talk, I will be highlighting the growth of roses from a commercial perspective; using what I have learned to offer some insight. This will include how and why we do things, parallels to growing outdoors and our approach to pest management. Hopefully, my unique perspective will provide some good new information.
