Oct. 18, 2021 Roger Griffiths – Alpine Plants of BC and Beyond

Roger Griffiths: Alpine Plants of BC and Beyond

Have you ever been on a long hike that takes you up and up and then as you break out of the forest, a stunning landscape filled with the glorious colors of alpine plants is laid out before you?  You are in awe!  The Comox Valley Horticultural Society invites you to enjoy a travel log with Roger Griffiths as he shares his enthusiasm for alpine flowers, meadows and mountain slopes.

This 35-minute Zoom presentation will be on Monday, October 18th at 7:00 pm.  It will include still images and video of the wide range of delicate flowers that are found in alpine areas across our province, the Yukon and Alberta.

Roger started climbing in England and the Alps before immigrating to Canada over 50 years ago.  After climbing in the Rockies, he moved to Vancouver In the late ’60s to start a mountain climbing school.  For the next 15 years, Roger guided climbs and multi-day hiking trips, including the Himalayas area, the St. Elias Mountains in the Yukon, the Canadian Rockies, and numerous places throughout BC.  His presentation will take you on his personal awakening to the beauty of the alpine flora and appreciation of the harsh conditions they grow in.

Now retired, Roger enjoys gardening yet the outdoor pursuits are a big part of his life, now at a more leisurely pace.
