Trees & Water – How our choices shape the landscape

Aaron Wurts is the owner of Grow Tree Care, an arboriculture company based in the Comox Valley. He brings over two decades of hands-on experience working with trees in some of BC’s most demanding environments – from Vancouver’s urban canopy to the valleys and hillsides of Vancouver Island.

Aaron’s talk will explore the fascinating and often overlooked relationship between trees and water. The decisions we make when managing trees and landscapes – how we prune, plant, and maintain them – can have a profound effect on water availability, both for the trees themselves and for the broader ecosystem. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just getting started, Aaron’s practical, objective-based approach to tree care will give you a fresh perspective on the living systems in your own backyard.

Aaron began his career in Vancouver’s arboriculture industry in 2001, working with municipalities, large development sites, commercial properties, and strata councils. After relocating his family to the Comox Valley in 2008, he built Grow Tree Care on the belief that both trees and people thrive when treated with respect. His company is known for its cohesive team, shared values, and a genuine commitment to the long-term health of trees – not just short-term fixes.

This will be a ‘hybrid’ in-person and Zoom meeting:

• All ZOOM meetings will begin at 7:00 pm.
• All IN-PERSON meetings: doors will open at 6:30 pm, and meetings start at 7:15 pm.
• In-person meetings (presentation-only) may also be accessible by Zoom from your home.
