Hands holding some worms and worm castings.Worm castings are rich in nutrients essential for plant growth, including nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and a range of micronutrients. Additionally, worm castings contain beneficial microbes that aid in plant disease resistance. It has been noted that worm castings may be up to 7 times more nutrient rich than other compost.

This workshop will introduce the process of turning kitchen waste into compost with the help of red wiggler worms (Eisenia fetida). We will learn how to get started setting up a vermiculture bin, as well as maintaining it, and the reward of harvesting the worm casting compost.

Participants will make their own worm bin to take home, complete with a starter colony of red wigglers.  All materials provided.
