Wendy Young – Director
My earliest memories are of being outside looking at plants on family walks or helping in the garden. As a child, I had my own vegetable patch and gradually took over more of the family garden growing herbs and perennials. I went on to study Botany, Microbiology, and fungal Genetics working in research for many years. After moving to North Vancouver in 2009 I retrained as a Waldorf High School Science teacher sharing my love of Nature and Science with young people.
Over the years our gardens in England grew from a narrow town garden to a large Victorian walled garden with our first greenhouse. Our search for a place to create a garden in our retirement brought us to the Comox Valley 18 months ago. Our 0.9-acre garden on the edge of Courtenay is a wonderful project, full of possibilities. We’ve already created a vegetable and fruit garden, planted hedges, and constructed a cedar greenhouse! I love experimenting with designing different borders and propagating plants. I’ve enjoyed meeting other gardeners through the Comox Valley Horticultural Society and the CV Newcomers gardening group. I’m looking forward to sharing my passion and enthusiasm for plants, and learning about gardening and our local environment with you all.
