All in person CVHS Meetings, Workshops and Events cancelled due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

August 6, 2020:

Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

All General Meetings have been cancelled until further notice. The Provincial Government is allowing small gatherings up to 50 people to proceed, with caution and appropriate social distancing measures. This does not mean our general meetings can proceed, as we typically have well over 100 people attending these events. The Florence Filberg Centre is still closed to the public, and they do not see this changing, or the resumption of public meetings of over 50 people happening anytime soon.

As the Province begins opening up economically again, and people are enjoying being able to travel around, the number of COVID-19 cases keeps going up. This seems to be due to larger gatherings and people not following proper social distancing procedures or foundational health guidelines. We are not out of the woods yet with this virus, so please remember to protect yourself and others. The best things you can do are to keep the number of people you see to a minimum and as much as possible, maintain a safe distance from others and use a mask when that is challenging. Washing hands frequently and staying home if sick are also recognized precautions.

CVHS Memberships

Due to the unusual circumstances the COVID-19 pandemic has created, and that we will not have any more in-person general meetings this year,
the Board has decided that those individuals and families who have purchased a CVHS membership for 2020, or will purchase a 2020 membership up until September 30, 2020, will receive a comparable membership for 2021 at no cost.

Memberships purchased October 1, 2020 or later will pay the regular fee for a 2021 membership.

CVHS September Virtual Meeting

Given these restrictions and the cancellation of our in-person general meetings, the Board will hold a virtual general meeting on Monday, September 14 beginning at 7:00 pm. After a short business update, Leslie Cox a.k.a. “The Duchess of Dirt”, will give a talk on “Putting our gardens to bed” – a very timely topic for September!
As with our in-person general meetings, there will be a “virtual door prize”. Leslie has kindly donated a copy of her book, “Duchess of Dirt: The Record Years” – a great read anytime of the year! A winner will be randomly drawn from the names of all members who attend the September meeting.

CVHS 2020 Virtual Annual General Meeting

The CVHS is still required by law to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM) each year, and this year is no exception. To meet this requirement, the Board will hold a “virtual AGM” on Monday, October 19 beginning at 7:00 pm.
Members are encouraged to join the meeting so we can accomplish our AGM business. You will have received certain information that you will be required to vote on at the AGM, like our 2020 financial statement and the 2021 budget, several weeks prior to the meeting. We will also discuss what we might be doing for our 2021 season. For the AGM to be legal, we require at least 10% of our members to attend and vote on the items that need membership approval. We currently have around 251 members, so we would require at least 26 members to participate in the meeting.

We will also be drawing door prizes at this meeting!

Happy gardening and stay healthy!
