PLANT SALES are our major fund-raisers for the year. Members donate seedlings, cutting and divisions they have grown from the eclectic variety of plants in their own gardens for both the Spring and Fall plant sales.
OPEN GARDEN TOURS are held periodically throughout the gardening season. They are tours featuring CVHS members’ gardens in the Valley. Tours are announced in the Newsletter and are free of charge to members and guests.
WORKSHOPS are arranged periodically throughout the year for CVHS members. We strive to engage qualified, knowledgeable people to lead each workshop…and on as many varied topics as the professionals can cover. In the past, we have had workshops on pond building, hyper-tufa, flower arranging, how to use lavender, grafting, pruning…including a special pruning workshop for roses…and most recently, a workshop on Actively Aerated Compost Tea.
BUS TOURS are arranged every now and again, especially for our CVHS members. These are fantastically fun, day-long tours to different regions of Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands…and even one to the Sunshine Coast. The tours consist of a finely-tuned itinerary of visits to a number of both private and public gardens, sometimes a winery, and always includes at least one or two nurseries for enjoyable plant shopping. It is usually a bagged lunch affair with a stop somewhere for tea and coffee.
GARDENS IN BLOOM is an annual event that takes place on the third weekend in June. This two-day garden tour features some of the lovely gardens in and around the Comox Valley. It is a fund-raising event with much of the proceeds being returned to the community in support of various gardening endeavours.
